Our History
Distinctive Memories Funerals And Cremations History
"A Man with a Vision", our short but rich story begins with the vision of our Owner and Visionary; Rev. T. Caleb Brown.
As a young child he would accompany his grandmother to Sims - Gundy Funeral Home and Hunt's Golden State Funeral Home to pay burial insurance for the month. As an inquisitive young man he would always wondering what would be happening "in the back"; referred to the embalming room. This is where passion began.
Around 1989 a young funeral director by the name of Bishop Rodney McFarland caught the attention of Rev. Brown, Bishop McFarland was a young and vibrant funeral director and his mannerism sparked the young Rev. Brown to the point he then and still does hold McFarland in high regard.
Rev. Brown started his first work in the funeral industry as a teenager with the Miller Funeral Home, then moved on to Tennant Funeral Home. He also did some work for Richardson Funeral Home, but something was missing.
Rev. Brown went to work for The Major Funeral Home and Chapel this is where he received his hands on training as a Provisonal Funeral Director.
During such a lengthy history of working with the industry a passion for families heart was developed. Rev. Brown developed the motto "low cost funerals doesn't have to look cheap, all families deserve to bury their loved one's with dignity" and with that being said he and his nephew; Donal Sims, Jr. decided to birth Distinctive Memories Funerals and Cremations. A firm that is designed with you in mind.
